Baby Groovers 1 | 3 - 5 years
Sundays at 11:30am - 12:15pm

For the Baby Groovers joining us for the first time. They work with professional instructors to develop their dance abilities reflecting African and Caribbean culture. Students explore historical and geographical aspects of their dances in a fun and creative manner. These dancers are taught in a group setting where connection to oneself and culture is emphasized. The class runs for 45 minutes and is non-parented.

Sundays at 1:30pm - 2:15pm

For our Baby Groovers from previous seasons. Emphasis is on creative movement through drumming, songs and games while gaining an introduction to dance styles reflecting the African Diaspora. Students learn how to express themselves through movement and music and are also introduced to the meaning and purpose of each dance style in a fun and exciting way. The class runs for 45 minutes and is non-parented.

 
 

Little Groovers 1 | 6 - 8 years

Junior Groovers | 9 - 11 years
Sundays at 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Junior Groovers work with skilled instructors in an environment where connection to oneself and culture is emphasized. These dancers develop their understanding of dance vocabulary and expression within the Afro Diaspora and advance their dance abilities in a fun and creative manner.

Little Groovers 11 | 6 - 8 years
Sundays at 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Our experienced Little Groovers work with professional instructors to develop their dance abilities reflecting African and Caribbean culture. Students explore historical and geographical aspects of their dances in a fun and creative manner. These dancers are taught in a group setting where connection to oneself and culture is emphasized.
 

Senior Groovers | 12 - 14 years
Sundays at 11:30am - 12:30pm

Senior Groovers work with trained dance instructors to explore various dance styles reflecting African, Caribbean and Pop culture. Students develop their knowledge on aspects concerning the Afro Diaspora and expand their dance abilities in a fun-filled and active environment.
 

 
 

Groovy Drummers | 5+ years
Beginners Sundays at 2:15pm - 3:15pm
Experienced Sundays at 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Our Groovy Drummers work with professional drumming instructors to expand their musical potential on the West African Djembe drum. The drumming students explore West African musical traditions through their hands. Focus is on enlightening each drummer on the history of rhythms, cultural significance, and traditional Djembe techniques. This class runs for one hour and is offered to ages 5 years and up. Participants will need their own Djembe drum.

Groove This Way | 9+ years
Sundays at 10:30am - 11:30am

This intriguing class is new to the Afiwi Groove School and runs for one hour for ages 9 years and up. Students will have the opportunity to learn childhood anecdotes and folks songs their parents grew up on while exploring theatrical aspects for these stories, singing, creative arts and leadership skills. Groovy Theatre gives students the freedom to explore the greatest depths of their minds as they create and perform narratives expressing themselves through theatre of the African Diaspora.

AfroBeat Adult Dance Class
Sundays at 2:45pm - 3:45pm

Adults get their groove on in this one hour AfroBeats class as they work with trained dance instructors in a comfortable, fun and judgment-free zone. These groovy adults learn various dance combinations reflecting Afro Caribbean culture and get their weekly exercise while exploring their love for dance and movement. No previous dance experience is required.

Intro to West African Adult Dance Class
Sundays at 2:30pm - 3:30pm

This one hour fitness class is everything but ordinary. Adults enjoy fun-filled exercises that build endurance, strength and flexibility. In this class, adults work with instructors and are guaranteed dynamic, motivating and sweat-filled fun that will surely help to get them grooving.

 
 

Junior Performing Team
Sundays at 10:30am - 11:30am

Ready to take dancing to the next level and perform exciting choreography? Join the Junior Afiwi Groove Performance Team. Team members go through an exciting audition experience and learn fun dances to be performed at various events presented by the Afiwi Groove School or where special invitation has been extended. Members meet for an hour on Sunday mornings and train with talented choreographers to learn various Afro Caribbean routines. Performers develop their performance and teamwork skills while doing what they love. Previous dance and performing experience is required.

Senior Performing Team
Sundays at 2:45pm - 4:00pm

Team members will go through an exciting audition experience. If selected, they will be learn fun and challenging dances to be performed at various events presented by the Afiwi Groove School or where special invitation has been extended. Members meet for 75 minutes every Sunday and train with talented choreographers to learn various routines reflecting African, Caribbean and Pop culture. Performers develop their performance and teamwork skills while doing what they love. Previous dance and performing experience is required. Positive attitude and the readiness to embrace the professional world of dance is also required. Team members will be compensated for performances after three months of joining the team.
