Prerequisite: Groovy Drummers 1
Groovy Drummer Level 1 is an introduction to West African Djembe Drumming. Professional drummers will instruct students and expand their musical potential with the West African drum, the djembe. The class explores West African musical traditions through specific drumming rhythms, such as Kuku. We focus on enlightening each drummer through the history of rhythms, cultural significance, and traditional djembe techniques. Drums can be purchased or rented from Afiwi Groove for this class.
No prior music experience is required.
Groovy Drummer Level 2
Afiwi experienced Drummers work with a professional master drum instructors to expand their musical potential on the West African drum, the djembe. This class builds on the knowledge that students learned in Level 1, deepening their understanding and appreciation for West African musical traditions, cultural significance, and traditional djembe techniques. Drums can be purchased or rented from Afiwi Groove for this class.
